$1.2 M Available in Training Grants
INCUMBENT WORKER TRAINING
The Governor's Workforce Board has announced its 2012 Incumbent Worker Training Grants to support the competitiveness and growth of Rhode Island businesses. Up to $1,200,000 has been allocated to provide matching funds to companies, labor organizations, trade associations, and consortia of employers to invest in incumbent worker training that builds and retains a highly skilled, high-performing workforce. Program goals include increasing worker productivity; improving operational efficiencies; and encouraging workplace innovation, talent development and promotional opportunities. Rhode Island for-profit and not-for-profit organizations (except those who received a Comprehensive Grant in 2010) may apply if they currently contribute to the Job Development Fund.
Maximum awards vary depending on the size of the company. Small businesses of less than 50 employees may apply for up to $10,000 in matching funds; medium-size businesses of 50-249 employees may apply for up to $25,000 in matching funds; and larger businesses of 250 or more employees may apply for up to $40,000.
Applicants are responsible to contribute a minimum of 50% of the allowable training expenses; however, up to $10,000 in "Bonus Funding" is available to companies/organizations that provide a summer work experience or school year internship to a youth referred by a YouthWORKS411 center.
