Last year over 275 business leaders joined us for a unique opportunity to hear how the Michigan manufacturing sector, lead by the Michigan Manufacturers Association’s government affairs staff, worked with the state legislators and leadership in creating a pro-manufacturing climate. Their challenges are the same as we have here in Rhode Island. Through a collaborative commitment and shared vision, their legislative achievements are reinventing their state from the top down.  After a tumultuous decade, manufacturers are again helping drive Michigan’s economy. Michigan gained more than 20,000 industrial jobs since early 2011, and the state is now home to more than 14,000 manufacturers employing approximately 650,000 workers. State policy makers, too, seem to be paying attention to help the state’s industrial base. The elimination of the Michigan Business Tax was a start, followed by eliminating the state’s industrial personal property tax, reducing unemployment and workers compensation costs and the elimination of hundreds of unnecessary regulatory rules. The year was capped off with the passage of legislation that made Michigan the newest Right to Work State.

In Chuck Hadden’s words “. . . 2012 truly was a remarkable year.”

for RIMA's 2014 Manufacturing Renaissance Gala

Omni Hotel, Providence

On behalf of RIMA, I would like to thank our sponsors, advertisers and all who attended our RI Manufacturing Renaissance event in October.  It was an evening of tremendous conversation and great fun. During the night we had a chance to recognize the terrific work of Beth and Kevin Cunha at the Center for Dynamic Learning in Providence; Briar Dacier from Davies Career & Tech High School in Lincoln; and, the founding members of the Manufacturing Skills Initiative for RI. The work being done to encourage our youth to explore careers in manufacturing is absolutely wonderful.
